Historical trekking in Friuli Venezia Giulia
This trek track the history of the First World War in a region heavily involved in the conflict, through a slow journey between trenches and walkways, in the places where many battles were fought, enriched with a visit to the largest monument to the fallen of the First World War and with the choice between different treks among the Collio vineyards, where it will be possible to taste the excellent white wines of the area.
Minimum 2 participants
Free departures from 25 September to 30 June 2021
(The months of December, January and February could be particularly cold)
I Arrival in the afternoon on your own. Welcome drink and dinner in a restaurant with local products.
Breakfast and departure in the direction of Mount San Michele.
We will go on a trek that will immerse us in the epicenter of the eastern front of the First World War along trenches, walkways and gunboats. A surreal atmosphere imagining the state of mind of the fighters on the 1914-1918 front (Gorizia entered the war a year earlier than Italy).
We will have the opportunity to see a private war museum run by volunteers as well as a multimedia museum to experience the front. We will tackle the Brestovec path, a walk in the middle of the Karst along the trenches built after the sixth battle of the Isonzo.
Lunch in an “osmiza” - the typical restaurant of the Karst - tasting typical dishes of the area.
In the afternoon the visit will resume with a visit to the Bersaglieri sinkhole at Monte sei Busi along the evocative walkways that the soldiers walked and then descend towards the Redipuglia Memorial where one hundred thousand soldiers are buried: the largest monument dedicated to the fallen of the first world war.
We recommend a walk to the top of the monument where there is a chapel (closed for renovations in this period).
Return to Gorizia.
Dinner in an excellent city restaurant located in a splendid square: unique and particular atmosphere. Overnight
Breakfast and departure for Monte Sabotino, one of the three hills overlooking Gorizia, the scene of bloody assaults by Italian troops on the Austro-Hungarian positions.
An uphill Trekking - about 550 m in altitude - which leads to the remains of the S.Valentino church.
Along the ridge you will arrive at the refuge where you will be the guide for a visit of about an hour and a half to the shelters, the trenches and the museum.
Then lunch will be deserved at the refuge with a spectacular view to the sea.
Return in the early afternoon.
Visit to the Coronini Foundation to discover hidden treasures immersed in a villa that has breathed a lot of history.
Dinner in a typical Gorizia restaurant with a themed menu "At the table with the Count" - late 19th century recipes revisited by the chef - which will bring new and unexpected emotions to life.
Narrative themed path to walk through the vineyards from which excellent white wines are produced.
Guests can decide between the following routes:
- The fairies of preval: a fairy tale told in an 8 km walk;
- The vino veritas: a 16.5 km journey through a report on the history of the vineyards and the personality that contributed to their development;
