Departure from Italy with scheduled flight.
Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation and free dinner.
Overnight stay at the hotel
Early morning transfer to the airport and flight to Tumlingtar. Arrival and start of the trek in the lush Arun valley. The path climbs through bamboo forests, green forests, and cultivated terraces. In Gogane the panorama opens and the view sweeps over Makalu, Chamlang (7330 m.), and other snow-capped peaks. The path then takes the edge of the ridge and follows it with some up and down to the village of Mure (2000 m.), then down to Num from which you can see in the distance, on the opposite bank of the Arun valley, the village of Sheduwa, the next stage of the trek.
Overnight stay at the lodge
From Num the path first descends gradually, then steeper towards the river which is crossed at an altitude of 620 m on the suspension bridge. The landscape is very green with cultivated terraces. Long ascent to Sheduwa where there is also the gateway to Makalu-Barun National Park.
Overnight stay at the lodge
The path climbs through rice fields and streams towards Tashigaon, the last permanent settlement in the valley. After it, there will no longer be any villages, but only mountain pastures and small seasonal agglomerations. The village is very beautiful and peaceful and it is the right place to rest; here in fact also the change of the bearers takes place, since only the premises can continue further.
Overnight stay at the lodge
Day off. You can go up a little towards Kongma (Kauma) to acclimatize or simply enjoy the relaxed climate of Tashigaon, waiting for the demanding stage of the next day. From here on, the stages are dictated by the camping areas authorized by Makalu Park.
Overnight stay at the lodge
Today's stage is rather hard, both for the difference in altitude (almost 1500 meters!) and for the altitude reached, which can begin to give some symptoms of altitude sickness. The path climbs steeply through ridges and forests rich in rhododendrons to Kongma, from which climbing just on the ridge, you can see the Kanchenjunga in the distance.
Overnight stay in a tent
The path climbs up the ridge and soon offers spectacular views of the mountain ranges that stretch from east to north to Makalu, gigantic despite the distance. Reached Tutu La (4050 m.), descend to Kalo Pokhari, a beautiful lake at 3840 meters, and then go up the mythical Shipton La, a 4216-meter pass crossed in 1952 by the English explorer together with Edmund Hillary during their reuniting with Everest. New descent at another beautiful lake and last ascent of Keke La, the 4150m pass that leads to the valley where Mumbuk is located, the site of the camp.
Overnight stay in a tent
The path gradually descends through forests, landslides, and debris to the Barun River, which will be followed to reach the Makalu base camp. As you proceed, the valley widens up to cross the Barun at the Yangle Kharka pasture, after which you will arrive in Nehe, where the camp is placed.
Overnight stay in a tent
After Nehe the river makes a huge S between huge and spectacular rock walls that rise on both banks. The trail climbs up the slopes and offers wonderful views of Peak 4, 5, and Chamlang. As you proceed, the Makalu begins to appear in its bulk to the north. The environment is increasingly arid and rocky.
Overnight stay in a tent
The panorama becomes more and more grandiose and the Makalu increasingly imposing. The base camp is a large moraine expanse
Overnight stay in a tent
You rise above the base camp
along the "path" that runs alongside the Barun Pokhari and goes up the Barun glacier. The walk takes place on debris and rocks that require some attention.
Overnight stay in a tent
Continue the ascent to Sherpani Col along the glacier. Field on snow.
Overnight stay in a tent
Today you face the spectacular Sherpani Col. Through seracs and frozen slides you go up the slopes that lead to the hill. From here the panorama is absolutely breathtaking towards: Chamlang, Hongku Chuli, Baruntse, Makalu, Lhotse, Everest, and Cho Oyu.
Overnight stay in a tent
New high altitude pass which leads to the foot of the last and most demanding Amphu Labcha between snow and rocks. The pass is equipped with fixed ropes from the Sherpas.
Overnight stay in a tent
This is the most tiring day of the whole trek. Departure around 05:00 am to face the Amphu Labcha pass. There are some technical passages on ice on the southern slope which are equipped with fixed rope and some passages and two abseils on rock (or snow, depending on the conditions) which are also equipped with fixed ropes by our climbing Sherpas. The panorama from the pass is splendid in every direction. Once you get off, it takes about 4 hours to walk to Chukung, where you will spend the night.
Overnight stay at the lodge
Descend towards the beautiful forest that hosts Deboche. Here there is still a small, splendid female monastery that can be visited. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing.
Overnight stay at the lodge
Go up the short stretch of path that leads to Tengboche. Here is the most important monastery in the whole valley and here takes place the Mani Rimdu in October-November, one of the most important Buddhist festivals ever. The monastery was rebuilt in 1990 after a fire destroyed it. From Tengboche, you descend towards Dudh Koshi, and then go up in the direction of Namche Bazaar where you spend the night.
Overnight stay at the lodge.
