Trekking Trip Greece: Discovering Crete – October 4th
Crete, the largest and most mountainous island in Greece, is the perfect destination for spectacular treks through villages, gorges and white beaches. Its seasonality makes it perfect even in autumn, when the pleasant temperatures are perfect for walking some of the most popular itineraries. The island of Crete offers a rare mix of beautiful beaches, stunning mountain landscapes, vibrant cities and cozy villages inhabited by friendly people, all spiced up with genuine local cuisine, excellent wine and a shot of raki! The southwestern area of the island is characterized by a unique landscape of panoramic gorges and a coast full of secluded beaches bathed in an intense blue sea. The top 4 of the proposal:
The Samaria Gorge, located in the national park, is one of the island's must-see trekking excursions, although Crete is dotted with gorges, this is undoubtedly the most famous and fascinating. The walk in the woods will lead you directly into the gorge, until you reach the 3 meter strait known as "iron doors", the path is mostly shaded. The Imbros gorges instead will make you follow a rocky or pebbly path. After about an hour of walking you will reach the narrowest point where the walls are only two meters apart for a height of 300 meters. During the trek to Paleochora, a town located on the southwestern coast of the island, the path runs along the sea characterized by breathtaking scenery of the island and will lead you to the ancient archaeological site of Lissos. Without forgetting some relaxation with Marmara or Sourgia beach, crystal clear water and white sand await you after the trekking excursion. The excursions are also accessible to those who do not have technical knowledge, but still require a certain degree of training, especially the trekking dedicated to the Samaria gorge.
