Trekking the Larapinta Trail is a one-of-a-kind Australian adventure trek. The Classic Larapinta Trek is included in the 7 Great Walks of Australia and is also included in the top 10 world top walks.

We are in the Australian Northern Territory and- more precisely- in the Red Center.

It is more than 200 km long and goes from Alice Springs to Redbank Gorge, crossing the rocky plateau of the West MacDonnell Ranges on the way, there are semi-permanent camps, and you will only have to carry your daily equipment necessary for the walks. At the end of each day, you can enjoy the comforts of the semi-permanent camps (Ti Tree and Charlie’s) equipped with a heated lounge, hot showers, chemical services, solar energy, and 12V USB charging.

A support vehicle will transport the surplus material, even personal. Meals are generous and delicious.

We have selected the routes for their spectacularity and variety of environments and panoramas crossed in this ancestral place.

You will be struck by the immensity of Ormiston and Serpentine gorges so rich in precious water; you will be fascinated by the chromatic changes of the rock formations of Simpsons Gap and Standley Chasm; you will be struck by the trek of Mt Sonder (1,380m) and by the magnificence of the panorama visible from its summit. Last but not least, you are welcome to the land of the Arrernte Aboriginal people, traditional guardians of this vast area.

Walking on the highest ridges of the West MacDonnell Ranges, we will have the opportunity to observe the spectacular views of the Outback from a privileged point of view. We follow an itinerary aimed at an active walker prepared to make between six and seven kilometers each day, with many optional itineraries for those who are more active. You will need to bring only the backpack with the daily needs as you will stay overnight in elegant, exclusive, and comfortable semi-permanent campsites (Ti Tree and Charlie’s), where the exceptional facilities are ready and awaiting your arrival.

A support vehicle will transfer us at the start of the trek, which allows us to select the walks that are the perfect balance between spectacular landscapes and the distance traveled. The diversity of the trekking stages is impressive. Sometimes the trail descends from the ridge into narrow canyons where there are small oases of delicate fern, and the twisted gum trees grow on the banks of dry rivers for most of the year.

Trip evaluation

To determine the rank of a particular adventure, we consider several factors. These include the condition of the terrain, the elevation, and the duration of the trek. The 6-day Larapinta Trail responds to the classification of introductory and moderate. This trek involves 5 – 7 hours of walking every day over rough terrain with some steep climbs and descents. Although this trek does not count altitude, it can be hard and not to be underestimated. To complete this trek, we recommend involving three or four times a week in regular physical exercise for at least three months before the departure.

ALICE SPRINGS (- / - / -)

Arrive in Alice Springs and transfers to the hotel with shuttle service.
In the late afternoon, meeting the guides for the briefing on the Larapinta Trail and the days to come.

Alice Springs Alice Springs- a town with just 28,000 inhabitants- is located in the center of the Australian continent like an oasis in the desert, surrounded by rocky mountains and immersed in an arid landscape of indescribable colors, truly spectacular. The population has a strong Aboriginal presence, and it is no coincidence that the center offers numerous art studios where you can buy beautiful and expensive Aboriginal paintings, but also more affordable souvenir shops linked to the traditions of the ancient inhabitants of these areas.
In Alice Springs it is also possible to organize beautiful and exciting excursions such as the sunrise ascension in a hot air balloon over the desert and the quod or mountain bike excursion in the desert.
To visit
At number one, the Kangaroo Sanctuary from Tuesday to Friday.
Then the Old Telegraph Station with its museum and the history of the pioneers who conquered the Red Center connecting with the telegraph first and the railway then Adelaide to Darwin.
The Desert Park opened in March 1997, located on the hills of the Mac Donnel Ranges: it is a spectacular introduction to the desert environment and its typical fauna; the three largest habitats with over 120 Australian animal species, including some in extinction and 350 plant species. The Royal Flying Doctor Service, the helicopter emergency service, a reference for all of Central Australia.
The School Of The Air, with which hundreds of teens and children receive school education via radio.
For dinner, however, we recommend the Bojangles restaurant (at 80 Todd Street Tel. 89522873), as well as enjoying the typical local cuisine, based on grilled meat, you can listen to excellent Australian music.
